A six-panel folding screen painted on paper, with pigments, gold dust and gold leaf, depicting two scenes from the Tales of Genji. The landscape is dominated by a Matsu with sinuous branches, with figures engaged in daily activities, and a snow-covered village crossed by a stream, all surrounded by rolling hills in the background.
Signed Kano Eigaku (1790-1867), with seal at lower right.
The panels are surrounded by light silk borders, with a lacquered wood frame and metal corners.
Period: Edo 19th century.
Dimensions: 172 x 369 cm.
Condition: Excellent. There are cracks in the paper at the top and bottom between the 1st and 2nd panel, between the 3rd and 4th and between the 5th and 6th. Relined at the back.
