Kangxi period, ca. 1675-1725.
The body of round flattened lentil shape with applied moulded floral sprays on the upper part and Pair of Books (書, Shū), on the lower part. The teapot is flanked with a loop handle and spout and is raised on a foot rim, the lid with appliqué decoration of three flowers and a knob with straight carved lines.
One of the Eight Precious Things (Babao, 八宝), Pair of Books is a symbol of learning and intellectual pursuit, it underscores the importance of education and is revered as one of the Four Signs of the Scholar. It signifies the continuous journey of knowledge acquisition and wisdom.
