Each bowl decorated on the outside with a lotus leaf motif and a wickerwork foot, the waived rim mounted with French 19th century gilt-bronze double acanthus leaf handles, on a scrolled foot.
Lord and Lady Weinstock were influential figures in British business, social and cultural life in the second half of the 20th century. During their long marriage they amassed a superb collection of decorative arts from around the world. Many of their treasures adorned Bowden Park (including these magnificent celadon vases), their classical family home in Wiltshire, designed and built in 1796 by James Wyatt, the most successful country house architect of his day.
The final photographs were taken out of the studio, to highlight the magnificent colour of the gilding of these fine objects in natural light.
