Anonymous, Soaring Eagle, mid-20th century. Patinated cast metal mounted on quartz block. 24 cm (total height) x 29 cm (width) x 12 cm (depth).- Patina heavily rubbed in places, screw connections between sculpture and stone and one leg attachment loose.
- With eagle eyes -
Sitting on a rock, the eagle has spotted something low below and spreads its wings to fly away from its eyrie. The asymmetry of the wings gives the bird of prey a special dynamism, while the bowed head and open beak anticipate the arrow-like speed with which the eagle will pounce on its prey. The light quartz base, which shines through from behind, provides a harmonious colour contrast to the eagle, which is further emphasised.
