Large enameled terracotta plaque imitating marble dating from the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century in high relief representing an angel and an assembly of putti holding a phylactery.
The illusion with a thick marble plaque is quite successful and we find brilliant flashes in the material of the enamel as in certain varieties of white marble.
The condition is excellent.
A plaque to place or hang.
This assembly of putti is to be compared to the work of François Duquesnoy (1597-1643), a famous sculptor of the 17th century whose children's scenes were his specialty among others.
Our work is related to a "concert of musical angels", a marble relief preserved at the Santi Apostoli Museum in Naples.
A very beautiful enameled plaque, a work pleasant to the eye and to the touch.
