Object description :

"18th Pair Of Neoclassical Armchairs Stamped Pierre Remy Louis XVI Period"
Pair of neoclassical convertible armchairs from the Louis XVI period in molded, carved and lacquered wood, stamped Pierre Remy.
Beautiful ample woodwork with a curved medallion back, tapered legs with deep grooves. Original upholstery. Covered with polka dot embroidered silk in very good condition. The stamp is located on one of the two armchairs, below, on the rear crossbar.

Pierre Remy (1724-1798) Carpenter. Paris. Master on May 8, 1750. He managed a considerable establishment on rue Poissonière.
Son of a Master Carpenter and nephew of the great cabinetmaker Gilles Joubert, Pierre Rémy, after being admitted to the master's degree in 1750, opened a very important workshop and trade in wood for construction and industry, rue Poissonnière. He specialized in the manufacture of seats. We find his stamp on beautiful works, Louis XV armchairs mounted on frames, with sculpted decorations of roses and foliage with large moldings. Some of its Transition seats have a curved shape with neoclassical motifs. Its production of Louis XVI armchairs, less abundant, is worked in natural wood with often arched backs, carved with foliage, interlacing, piastre, laurel and acanthus.
