"Jeanne Champillou. "the Lunch". Oil On Canvas Framed E Early 20th Century. "
Framed oil on canvas depicting three children having lunch. Painting by Jeanne Champillou (1897-1978), painter, engraver, ceramist born on April 4, 1897 in Saint-Jean-le Blanc, southeast of Orléans. Coming from a family of winegrowers from Orléans on her father's side and artisan carpenters on her mother's side, she began to practice engraving in 1919. From her first creations, she showed a taste for intimate scenes. She was influenced by French realist or naturalist engraver painters, such as Bonvin or Flameng. She was inspired by scenes of daily life in the countryside: markets, small artisans at work. Her first exhibition took place in 1920, at the Artistes Orléanais: she showed paintings, watercolors and engravings there. She exhibited regularly in Orléans and engraved, during her life, more than 400 plates. In 1947 she started working in ceramics and produced numerous architectural works such as the decoration of the Lamotte-Beuvron school, that of the Notre-Dame des Miracles church in Orléans, as well as two Stations of the Cross in Flanders and four statues in the church of Gien.
