Gorgeous parisian gouache by Eugene GALIEN LALOUE representing the Porte Saint-Denis under the snow, richly animated, signed with his rare pseudonym "F.GIUSTO" (the painter used more than 10 different pseudonyms like L.DUPUY, J.LIEVIN, E.KERMAINGUY, M.LENOIR, A.MICHEL, L.COURTIER...).
For comparison, two gouaches by GALIEN LALOUE, also signed "F.GIUSTO", authenticated by Noé WILLER, specialist of the artist, were sold on November 23, 2010 by Sotheby's in London (lots 177 and 178).
The gouache we offer, in perfect condition and in its original frame, is of very high quality, finely detailed.
It illustrates the city of Paris "belle époque", idealized, its activities on the boulevard, its illuminated shops, its art nouveau metro entrance (by Hector Guimard)... Note the superb white/orange contrast between the effect of snow and lights !
Eugène GALIEN LALOUE was a prolific painter, best known for his Parisian gouaches, which are highly sought after and which can be negotiated for several tens of thousands of euros ; he also painted a large number of landscapes and seascapes through his numerous travels in France
