Italian Baroque Cartouche Frame Early 1600s, a rectangular shaped consisting by deep carved scrolling, connected by two central keys and foliage with the ribbing bulbed near the corners. Gold leaf gilding and mecca silver leaf finish with Armenian red bole preparation. It is centered by a fabric embroidered with flowers. In good condition with signs of wear and use consistent with a 17th-century date, it comes from a Milanese collection.
Of Lombard provenance, this fine 1600s Baroque frame is carved and carved with foliage; the depth of the pronounced scrollwork is enhanced by the dark finish of the oxide silver cartouches, the ornamental motifs depicting leaves with rolled, crumpled tips.
