"Beethoven By Pierre Gandon"
Engraved portrait of Beethoven in profile by Pierre Gandon (1899-1990). Son of Gaston Gandon, himself an engraver, he studied at the Estienne school then at the Paris School of Fine Arts in Fernand Cormon's studio. In 1921, he won the Prix de Rome for engraving. Following this prize, he specialized in book illustration and stamp engraving, but also continued to practice painting. The engraving is framed in a gilded wooden frame, unfortunately damaged on one side. It is signed lower right in the margin and justified lower left 88/200. The engraving measures 38x36 cm at the base.
