"Bust Of Louis II Of Bourbon-condé After Antoine Coysevox."
Large plaster bust, beautifully patinated, on a molded and painted wooden base. Work from the beginning of the 20th century, of good quality, based on the bronze model made by Antoine Coysevox. "Antoine Coysevox made tombs like those of Mazarin and Colbert. Here it is the portrait of Louis II of Bourbon-Condé, cousin of the king, great soldier and great strategist, which was made two years after his death. It should be noted, however, that a preparatory study was made during his lifetime. Commissioned by the model's nephew, François-Louis de Bourbon (1664-1709), Prince of Conti. Cast under the direction of Jules Hardouin-Mansart (1646-1708), first architect of the king, and placed in 1688 in the Hôtel de Conti in Paris. Paid for in May 1689. Salon of 1704, no number. Revolutionary seizure assigned to the Ministry of Finance in 1793. Entered the Louvre on August 14, 1800. Cited in the list of objects from the Louvre intended for the Museum of French Monuments, October 26, 1800. Sent to the Château de Saint-Cloud in 1802/1803 and placed in reserve under the Empire.
