"Plate, Iznik, Early 17th Century"
PLATE, IZNIK, EARLY 17TH CENTURYin polychrome glazed ceramic. Large bowl with smooth edge, oblique edge, concave recessed cave in the center. The decoration is based on a symmetrical arrangement of floral elements centered by a lanceolate leaf surrounded by red and blue tulip buds and tomato-red carnations. The edge of the plate is decorated with the usual “waves and rocks” or “Chinese stones” motif. A very similar copy is preserved at the V&A in London (inv. 948-1898), characterized by a less cursive style; diameter. 25, height. 5 cm
