Japan, EDO period (1603 - 1868) HIYA ZUTSU, small portable cannon for launching arrows or flaming projectiles used by samurai and soldiers. Wooden frame with steel tube with rimmed muzzle equipped with a rear sight and a notch. Fired by a light placed on the top of the breech. On the top and on the side, an inscription in Japanese indicates "HI HYAKUSANJUGO KOME" which is an indication of range at 135 meters. (Translation by Mr. L'expert du CNES - S.Lamotte).
