The wolf appears on the lookout, ears straight and tail lowered. He follows footprints sculpted in the marble. A symbol of freedom, intelligence and strength, the wolf is also an animal strongly present in the collective imagination. Charles Valton (1851-1918) is a French sculptor known for his works in the animal style. Valton's work was regularly exhibited at the Paris Salons between 1868 and 1914.
