"Natsume Japanese Lacquered Tea Box Karamatsu - Japan"
Tea box, natsume, for the macha tea of the tea ceremony. In burgundy brown lacquered wood with pine shoot decorations, called Karam Atsu, in gold makie lacquer. The interior is in gindame lacquer, very fine silver powder mixed with lacquer, giving the impression that the piece is made of metal. The contrast between the exterior decoration and the silver interior is striking, giving great elegance to this box. For the tea ceremony, the tea master chooses his objects according to the seasons, guests, events... This natsume relates to spring with its young pine shoots, synonymous with renewal. Artist: Shigenori Ootao, lacquer artist from Wajima. Japan, circa 1980, 7.2 x 6.6 cm. With its original box signed by the artist.
