“flowers” Baron Pierre Courtens (1921 - 2004)

"Ecole de Puteaux": Baron Pierre Courtens (1921-2004) Born in Brussels in 1921, Baron Pierre Courtens came from a line of famous painters in his country. In 1942, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Josse-ten-Noode, with the painter Jacques Naes as his teacher. He also studied monumental decorative art with Anto Carte, and took courses at the Académie Supérieure du Royaume de Belgique in Antwerp in etchings and woodcuts. In 1947, Pierre Courtens settled in Montparnasse and frequented the artists Atlan, Dominguez, Zadkine, Mane Kate. He frequently rubbed shoulders with Jacques Villon in Puteaux at Camille Renault's and was one of the painters of the Ecole de Puteaux. (...) Until 1972, numerous private exhibitions were held at Camille Renault's gallery in Paris or in his restaurant in Puteaux. In 1971, he was President of the Jury at the Puteaux Exhibition. Baron Pierre Courtens is particularly famous for the portraits he made of Antonin Artaud, whom he met in 1946. There are said to be around fifty portraits of Artaud around the world, painted or drawn by the artist. Oil on canvas signed top left, annotation top right and felt pen drawing on the back of the canvas the painting is in good condition wear and tear missing material on the corners and a little on the sides (enlarge the painting) which does not shock me at all which is part of the painting.
