French school painting of the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork of remarkable pictorial quality depicting the rest on the flight into Egypt. The biblical episode tells that in order to escape the violence of Herod and the massacre of the innocents, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus flee to Egypt. In this particular and very original composition the Holy Family and Saint John the Baptist are depicted in a carefree moment. Jesus and the Baptist seem to be playing with the lamb while Mary intervenes just as a loving and young mother would do. The entire scene is set in a lush landscape that gives depth to the painting. Painting of great pictorial quality, in particular the attention to detail and the executive technique in the creation of the drapery of the Madonna's dress should be highlighted. 20th century frame in carved and painted wood, of beautiful decoration. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Interior size H 91 x W 75 cm
