"The Port Of Marseille Around 1910 By Augustin Carrera 1878-1952"
Very original oil on canvas measuring 73cm x 60cm plus modern frame 93cm x 79cm signed lower right A.CARRERA Augustin CARRERA was born in Spain in 1878, died in Paris in 1952 He is one of the most important painters of his generation having worked in Marseille and Provence. Friend of Bourdelle Born to French parents, he was a student of Alphonse Moutte in Marseille, then of Léon Bonnat and Henri Martin in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1904 to 1936. He received an honorable mention and a travel grant in 1907 as well as a silver medal in 1933. He also received a Gold Medal at the 1937 International Exhibition. The Drouet Gallery dedicated an exhibition to him in 1910. He created decorative panels for the Ministry of Colonies and two ceilings for the Marseille Opera in 1924. Finally, he was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1920 and an officer in 1928. The Cantini Museum in Marseille, of which he became the Curator in 1934, holds three works by this artist, as does the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse. The painting that I present to you is incredibly modern. The artist wanted to represent part of the port of Marseille with a foot of the transporter bridge in pastel tones with a touch close to Fauvism (broad strokes, balance of very refined colors applied in a single stroke). This painting must date from the years 1905-1920. Very beautiful collector's item. Free shipping worldwide.
