"Leopold Carl Müller. Watercolor On Paper "the Expedition To Petra, Jordan" 37 X 52 Cm"
Leopold Carl Müller. Orientalist. Watercolor on paper "Expedition to Petra, Jordan" signed and dated lower right Leopold.C.Müller 1876. Austrian school. 37 X 52 cm. Leopold Carl Müller was born in Dresden (Kingdom of Saxony) in 1834 and died in Weidlingen near Vienna (Austria) in 1892. He traveled in France, Italy, Egypt, the Balkan countries, and Turkey. After admiring the orientalist works of Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) and Eugène Fromentin (1820-1876) in Paris, he decided to orient his work in a direction that would take him even further east than his famous predecessors, in Egypt. From then on, he devoted himself almost exclusively to reproducing the atmosphere of oriental customs. His talent allows him to combine in an assertive way his palette of colors with the vibrant light of the Levant so that, in his works, the life of the orientals is reproduced with accuracy and elegance. He was director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. The Museums of Gratz, Vienna (Austria) and Munich (Germany) preserve some of his works. Our watercolor is an accomplished example of the artist's work as a colorist as well as the precision of his line. His works are rare on the market. Frame in wood veneered with rosewood and lemon tree of the period. Good condition.
