Magnificent set of statuettes cast in pinkish beige, clayey and fine terracotta as well as a palanquin. The set is composed of nine musicians (five Bang players, two Bangdi players, two Suona players), four servants (including a tablet carrier and an umbrella carrier), four palanquin carriers and a palanquin with closed doors. The characters are dressed in Ming fashion wearing a belted double-breasted coat covered with a green glaze, with pleated panels of pink or ochre color and stand on a terrace. The glazes are obtained by mixing metal oxides with varnishes based on feldspars fired at low temperature, iron giving yellow and red, and copper giving green. Accompanied by a thermoluminescence test confirming the period. Origin: China. Dimensions of the characters: Height: approximately 19 to 20 cm; Palanquin: Height: 20 cm; Length: 10.5 cm; width: 9 cm. Period: Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Conditions Very good general condition except for the partial loss of polychromies. Provenance: French private collection.
