In the center of the canvas, the strawberries shine. They are as if wrapped in the curves of the bindweed, whose white flowers are painted with great delicacy. The whole is bursting with freshness, with great elegance.
The work is signed lower left. It is in very good condition, cleaned and restored (a restoration visible on the back). It is offered in a beautiful 19th century frame, which was later regilded.
This work was created by Estelle Monnet-Laverpilière, an artist who excelled in compositions of flowers and fruits. Little is known about the artist herself, as is the case for many women before the 20th century. We do know, however, that she was born in Saint Dizier (Haute-Marne, France), that she was a student of Léon Cogniet and Alexandre Couder. She exhibited at the Salon des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1861 and 1863 (source: Bénézit). She is a rare artist, whose talent deserves to be recognized at its true value.
