"Interesting "salamander" Vase, In The Shape Of A Gourd, Japan 19th Century."
A disturbing and very realistic salamander, watching for its prey, wraps itself around this earthenware vase with a white background. The clawed animal, its mouth open, ends in a 'trident' tail. The patterns, whose contours are enhanced in the manner of cloisonné, are branches of large red flowers in luxuriant foliage. The base consists of an alternating frieze of large ribbed leaves and floral windows. The neck ends with a frieze of trilobed patterns, alternately green or yellow. Very good condition for this Japanese vase from the 19th century.
