Charles Kvapil (1884-1957) Villiers-sur-Morin, , rue du Touarte., (1927) oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, 46x65cm Charles Kvapil is a Belgian painter of the School of Paris, of Czechoslovakian origin, born in November 1884 and died in Paris in 1957. His first works were exhibited in 1908 at the Salon d'Anvers and until 1914. After the First World War during which he was mobilized, Charles Kvapils'moved to Paris and set up his studio in Montmartre, in the Hameau des Artistes, between rue Lepic and no. 11 avenue Junot, later he also lived in Villiers sur Morin, rue du Touarte. He first appeared to the Parisian public in 1920 at the Salon des Indépendants and became increasingly well-known, until he was able to present his works in Paris, Munich, Brussels, Geneva, Italy, Stockholm, London and New York. Today he is represented in numerous public and private collections, at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, and in the museums of Le Havre, Libourne, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Amsterdam and Tunis.
