Oil on canvas 73x60 cm "Seated Nude" Around 1930
Signed lower right, Catalogue Raisonné Othon Friesz n° 610
Born in 1879 in Le Havre like his childhood friend Raoul Dufy, Emile Othon Friesz is part of this generation of artists who symbolizes both tradition and modernity.
He exhibited in 1905 in the famous "Cage aux Fauves" of the Salon d'Automne with Matisse, Derain, Vlaminck ... and quickly found success, exhibiting regularly in the great Parisian and European Salons.
He evolved after Fauvism, towards a more personal form of expression, like most Fauves, taking into account his attraction to the Classical Tradition in painting.
The composition becomes more rigorous, the palette more restricted but more nuanced, giving a more architectural aspect to his painting, in a manner close to Expressionism.
This nude is very characteristic of the Painter's maturity, with a very classical construction, a nervous touch and the sobriety of the palette.
