Object description :

"An Large Pair Of Louis XVI Ormolu Sconces With Rams, Circa 1820-1830"
A large pair of Louis XVI ormolu sconces with rams, circa 1820-1830

An important and exceptional pair of three arms sconces, in finely chased and gilt bronze, in a magnificent period gilding; adorned with acanthus leaves holding garlands of oak leaves, joined by a ram's head and topped by a fire pot.
Magnificent French work, based on a model by Jean Charles Delafosse, in the Louis XVI style, was manufactured in the first third of the 19th century.

Sizes: H 19.68 In - W 13.77 In - D 9.05 In.

Our sconces are in excellent condition, they have been drilled to be electrified. They are in their original gilding, with some minor wear, which is part of the charm of these late 18th or early 19th-century French objects.

Jean Charles Delafosse (1734-1789) was a French architect, ornamentalist, painter and engraver.

His most famous collection of engravings is the Nouvelle iconologie historique, first published in 1768 and subsequently republished and modified many times.
He was an important theorist of the Louis XVI ‘square’ style and the beginnings of neo-classicism.

His influence was apparent in the decoration of Parisian houses between 1760 and 1780.
