"René Quéré "the Sailors At The Port""
René Quéré, born May 26, 1932 in Ploaré (Finistère) and died August 16, 2021 in Douarnenez, is a French painter, illustrator, ceramist, glass painter and teacher. René Quéré painted the sea and boats from his youth, on that of his godfather Le Dahut, a longliner. In 1951, he entered the regional school of fine arts in Quimper in the workshops of Jos Le Corre (1925-1979) and Pierre Toulhoat (1923-2014). He completed two years of apprenticeship at the Keraluc factory, alongside Pierre Toulhoat, Jos Le Corre, Xavier Krebs and Paul Yvain. At the time, he worked on raw enamel with a line rolled out with manganese dioxide, which gives a black-brown color, then filled it with various pigment-based dyes. He began producing unique pieces as an independent artist and chose to work on stoneware objects. He continued his career as an easel painter and returned to ceramics as part of the creation of panels commissioned by Brittany Ferries for the decoration of the MV/Pont-Aven liner. He also worked for the Armor-Lux company. From 1956, he exhibited in Brittany, Paris, Nantes, Belgium and Germany. Married to Henriette Blanchard, their travels regularly took them to Auvergne, the Basque Country but also to many cities where they liked to share their passion for Romanesque Art. The painter's study trips took him to Paris, St Benoit sur Loire, Milly la foret, Brussels, Amsterdam, Venice, Florence, Barcelona, Agadir and Ouarzazate. Between 1986 and 1988, together with the master glassmaker from Quimper, Jean-Pierre Le Bihan, he created the stained glass windows for the Saint-Jean chapel in Tréboul.
