"Rare Art Nouveau Uraline Basin Suspension, Early 20th Century"
Very beautiful and rare Art Nouveau period basin pendant light in molded and partially frosted uraline glass, decorated with a garland of daisy flowers, symbol of innocence, purity, but also of a new beginning with the hope of a bright future. This floral frieze encloses a 12-sided dome in reverse projection, the shape of which recalls the glass domes in vogue in architecture at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, such as at the Grand Palais in Paris or in the Haussmann department stores. The suspension cords are original but the electrification has been completely revised. Note the pretty bronze ceiling pavilion with finely chiseled foliage decoration. Uraline is a glass into which uranium has been incorporated, most of the time in the form of uranium oxide or diuranate. In the absence of any other dye, the color of uraline, which varies from yellow to green, depends on the level of oxidation of the material and its concentration of uranium ions. The characteristic of uraline objects is that they glow with a green fluorescent light when placed under ultraviolet light. Uralin became popular in the second half of the 19th century and experienced its golden age between 1880 and 1920. Dimensions of the basin: diameter 35 cm, depth 10 cm Total height of the suspension: 50 cm
