Emile Thivier. Oil on canvas "Suzanne fishing on the property" Signature stamp lower right E. Thivier. Thivier studio stamp on the back of the canvas. French school. 41 X 33 cm. Emile Louis Thivier was born in Paris in 1858 and died in Lucay-le-Mâle in 1922. He was a student of the academic painter Henri Lehmann (1814-1882) and then took classes at the Académie Julian where the teaching he received encouraged him to favor color over drawing. The painter made his debut at the Salon in 1880 and became a member of the Artistes Français in 1887. In 1896, Emile Thivier acquired a property in Lucay-le-Mâle (Indre), Les Cognées, where he and his family would regularly go on vacation. After the painter's death, part of the funds in his studio were donated by one of his daughters to the Indre Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Châteauroux. The artist freed himself from the austere academic teaching he received at the beginning of his career, to combine with great dexterity and touching sensitivity the lessons he received at the Académie Julian. Our painting is a fine example of his mastery of light, so dear to the Impressionists whose work he followed. Modern frame in carved and gilded wood. Good condition.
