Object description :

"Daisy Makeig-jones, Small Lustre Bowl, Wedgwood, C. 1914"
This elegant antique small bowl features a smooth Mother of Pearl exterior, adorned with fine gilt decorations along the top edge. Designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones for Wedgwood, the interior radiates a vibrant orange-gold luster, enriched by delicate gilded patterns along the rim. At its center lies an intricately painted gilded butterfly, perfectly complementing the glowing interior. Its refined simplicity and vivid coloration showcase Wedgwood's mastery of the lustreware technique. The base bears the Wedgwood Portland Vase mark, signifying its authenticity.
Susannah Margaretta "Daisy" Makeig-Jones (1881–1945) joined Wedgwood in 1909, becoming a full designer with her own studio in 1914. She pioneered a new pottery production technology, resulting in the creation of the iconic Fairyland and Ordinary Lustre series. This bowl corresponds to pattern Z4832, part of the initial Ordinary Lustre range introduced in 1914. This specific design, decorated with highly ornamented gilded butterflies, was produced from 1914 to 1929 and is now highly collectible. Limited production and growing appreciation for Makeig-Jones' artistry have led to rising values, making her work a sound investment for collectors.
