mixed media study, ink, gouache, watercolor on tracing paper made by the orientalist and Africanist painter Monique Cras. after the Beaux Arts in Paris (JP Laurens workshop), she obtained a scholarship and went to the different countries that made up the French Colonial Empire. she brought back studies taken from life of the people she encountered and made paintings that she exhibited at Parisian Salons, winning numerous awards. our sketch is signed at the bottom right and bears the words "Oualata", it is framed with a patinated oak strip and a kraft bevel recalling the tracing paper support of the drawing. a glass without reflection protects it. the Musée des Années Trente in Boulogne Billancourt presents works by Monique Cras.
