"1824 Directory Of The Department Of Corrèze, Armorial Bookplate Of The Villeuve Family Of Languedoc"
Very fine directory of the department of Corrèze for the year 1824. Printed by J.-M. DRAPPEAU in Tulle, printer of the Prefecture and the Bishopric. In one volume in-12 bound in full calf, smoothed spine decorated with gilded lacework on the covers. Good general condition, no tears, note some foxing, but nothing more classic given its two hundred years of age. 293 pages, table of contents and alphabetical table in addition. Emblazoned bookplate of the Villeneuve du Languedoc family, bearing the inscriptions of the motto "Sicut sol emicat ensis" (The sword shines like the sun) and the war cry "Victori et fideli" (Victorious and faithful) framing the coat of arms "Gules with a silver sword mounted in gold, placed in a band with the point down" surmounted by a marquis' crown. Louis XVIII, grandson of Louis XV and younger brother of Louis XVI, was King of France and Navarre at the beginning of 1824, and remained so until his death on September 16, 1824. He died without descendants and was buried in the Basilica of Saint-Denis. He was the last French monarch to receive this privilege, and also the last to die on the throne. His brother, the Count of Artois, succeeded him under the name of Charles X.
