"Beautiful Original Drawing By Greuse In Red Chalk And Black Pencil: The Slender Puttis, Late 18th Century"
Rare original drawing by Jean-Baptiste Greuze representing two slender Puttis, made in black pencil and red chalk. Work signed lower left and of perfect academicism in the taste of the second half of the 18th century, this beautiful drawing is made with subtlety on a strong paper in the form framed by a surround of sepia ink lines. We feel the accomplished touch of the Grand Master at the height of his Art, this beautiful piece in good condition because the robust support has preserved it and with beautiful nuances, the Puttis with raised arms seem to want to catch or support something, they are well-fleshed, not too much and full of dexterity: one in profile in black pencil and the other facing in red chalk; they respond to each other by hanging in the same posture. Of good size this very beautiful drawing attributed to Greuze: entrusted by the "Cabinet Turquin in 2024, seen by De Bayser in Paris", a leading expert in the expertise of this type of drawing and for this period (round label stuck on the back). A beautiful collector's item of good expressive size and in good condition made by a "Grand Master" of Classical Art from the end of the 18th century. This drawing presented soberly on a salmon background paper under glass deserves a frame to its height. A beautiful clean and studied museum piece.
