"Emile Prodhon (1881-1974) Village Street, Crogis. School Of Marne, Gausson, Ladureau, Signac"
Adorable little oil on panel by Emile Prodhon representing a country village street, signed lower left + marked Crogis on the back. Size of the painting alone 19x19cm and 22x22cm including frame. New post-impressionist composition by Emile Prodhon, representing a village street, perhaps Crogis therefore. As usual we immediately recognize the typical touch and palette of Prodhon, with a great richness of tones, his sky is sublime, in short a painting worthy of the best painters of his generation and his entourage. Émile Prodhon, born September 17, 1881 in Paris 10th arrondissement and died September 20, 1974 in Thorigny-sur-Marne, is a painter From a young age, he was attracted to painting and showed a certain talent as these first paintings prove. He entered the Cours Germain Pilon, the future School of Applied Arts in Paris, then he was an apprentice in a wallpaper workshop where he could express his style. He began his career by drawing flowers. However, he did not neglect pointillism, most certainly following the visit of Paul Signac. He was part of the closed circle of Émile-Gustave Cavallo-Péduzzi and Léo Gausson. He married in 1905 and from this union an only daughter was born. In 1923, he moved to live in Thorigny-sur-Marne where he was a municipal councilor from 1929 to 1944, then director of the Union des Beaux-Arts de Lagny in 1947, a position he kept until his death in 1974. This oil/panel is in good original condition, delivered in its original white patina frame which is a little worn.
