"Lacquer Panel Signed Pierre Paulin (1907-2007)"
Lacquer panel signed Pierre Paulin (1907-2007). French painter, decorator and master glassmaker (St-Denis-en-Bugey, Ain, 1907 – Lyon, Rhône, 2007) He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon (between 1926 and 1931), a student of Georges Decote. He began his career as a painter-decorator with mural painting. He decorated, alone and then with his wife Renée Besson, 11 churches (between 1928 and 1946) as well as educational premises and corporate headquarters (between 1937 and 1965). From 1935, under the influence of Jean Dunand, he tackled the technique of lacquer which became his main mode of expression until 1983. Settled in Ile-Barbe, then in Ecully near Lyon, he created a large number of decorative panels, doors, screens, furniture… and created a personal style based on the naturalist themes of oriental lacquer but evolving towards the powerfully colored fantastic. He worked with synthetic lacquer in relief enhanced with gold and silver. His clients were interior designers from Lyon (Chaleyssin, Pierrefeu, Bégule…) who installed private individuals, head offices, town halls or administrations. Dimensions: 2.05m x 0.98m and 3cm thick.
