A first, more imposing cylinder holds three clearly visible ex-ossibus relics linked to the history of the Bishopric of Auxerre. On the back is the authentic one dated 1879 in the name of Cardinal Victor-Félix Bernardou (1816-1891). It also bears the seal of the Archbishopric of Sens. Our three relics rest on a golden parterre. It is specified that this is a fragment of the skull (capite) and ribs (costis) of Saint Paule, Saint Magnence and Saint Romain abbot. Sens Cathedral is said to have received the relics of Saint Paule at the beginning of the 9th century, by Archbishop Magnus.
Saint Magnence is one of the five young girls who, on the death of Saint Germain, Bishop of Auxerre, came to Ravenna to accompany the return to Auxerre of the body. As for our abbot,
Saint Romain, it is undoubtedly Saint Romain of Auxerre bishop of the 6th century and instructor of Saint Benoit of Nursia.
