CHICKEN Oil on wood Signed lower left Alfred Godchaux was born in Paris on January 24, 1839. He lived in Pau, Orléans, and rue de Vesle in Reims at the time of his death. According to the notices in the catalogues of exhibitions in which he participated, he was a student of Gustave COURBET. The art columnist Paul Eudel devotes a chapter to him and describes him as a picturesque and boastful character, painting and selling his canvases in public.
