RARE EGG CUP In Russian porcelain from the "YACHT" service of CATHERINE II of RUSSIA, decorated with golden and green arabesques above a scalloped pink floral base. Garlands of waves and gold threads on the edge. Dimension(s): Height. 4.2 cm - Diam. 4.5 cm, Brand(s): Painted in blue with the cipher of Catherine II, Condition: VERY GOOD CONDITION - Tiny crack repaired on the edge, Period: LATE 18th century - 1784. The Arabesque service takes its name from the arabesques of the classical frescoes discovered during the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum and which influenced ornamentation and interiors throughout Europe at that time. Commissioned by Catherine the Great in 1784, it included 973 pieces and is considered the first large ceremonial service produced by the factory.
