French work, 19th century, 1820/1830 period Rare and superb pair of children's armchairs all in gilded wood stamped with the Jeanselme house under each armchair. Model with its original gilding with some wrinkles from time, entirely reupholstered according to the rules of the Art. Upholsterer from father to son since 1880, work with high quality silk, velvet and trimmings, woodwork having not undergone any restoration. The Jeanselmes are a family of Parisian cabinetmakers. Joseph-Pierre François, born around 1800 and died in Lagny-sur-Marne in 1860 and his brother Jean Arnoux (1794-1870), founded a factory of armchairs and chairs in Paris in 1824. Joseph-Pierre's son, Charles Joseph Marie (1827-1883), took over the company. His son, Charles Joseph Henri (1856-1930) then succeeded in the company of his nephew Jean-Pierre1. The Jeanselme house became the official supplier to the courts of Louis-Philippe2 and Napoleon III3.
