In 1956, Alberto Guzman was awarded a gold medal by the National School of Fine Arts in Lima. In 1957, he exhibited his first abstract sculpture in welded iron in that city, and in 1959, he had his first solo exhibition at the Instituto de Arte Contemporaneo in Lima. He then won a scholarship from France through a competition to travel to Paris. In 1962, Alberto Guzman exhibited at "L'art latino-Américain de Paris" at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and at the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture. He had his first exhibition in Paris in 1965, at the Galerie d'Avray. He was invited to numerous biennials: Paris (1963), Venice (1966), Antwerp, Carrara and Paris in 1969. Budapest at the Plateau d'Assy in 1973 and Havana in 1986. From 1970 Alberto Guzmán sought to transpose his research into marble. His works were exhibited at the Antoine Bourdelle Museum in Paris, "Sculptures and Drawings from 1959 to 1972", in 1982, at the Triennial of European Sculpture at the Grand Palais in Paris, in 1999 at the Maison de l'Amérique latine in Paris and at the Espace 1789 in Saint Ouen. Alongside his work as a sculptor, which is evidenced by a number of monumental works for the city, as well as fountains, Alberto Guzmán created jewelry, furniture and theater sets.
