"Oil Lamp In Forged Iron Italian (pistoia)"
Oil lamp, Pistoiese in forged, engraved and chiselled iron in relief of ecclesiastical manufacture. These small oil lamps originated in Pistoia in conjunction with the city's cathedral. Documents of the time narrate that in order to finish the cathedral, blacksmiths in Pistoia mobilised to make from the simplest with a lower cost as a souvenir to the most elaborate with a higher cost always as a more expensive souvenir. The proceeds from the sales were used to finish the Duomo's chantry.
More or less elaborate specimens are still preserved in the Pistoia Cathedral.
