This work, entitled "Un Gueux", was created by the sculptor Maurice Maignan. It was presented at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1897. Published in bronze by Alexis Rudier, it was very successful at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
An identical copy of this sculpture is kept at the Musée d'Orsay under the inventory number RF4677.
Bronze proof with double patina: black for the body and copper for the face.
Signed twice "M. Maignan" on the base.
Founder's mark: "Alexis Rudier - Paris".
