Baluster pewter pitcher with short oblique foot, "postillon's boot" cup and retractable lid with S-shaped thumb with molded crest.
Model of one of the VOVELLE.
Height: 15 cm.
CHARTRES, Second half of the 19th century

These so-called "ration" pitchers were used in the religious hospital communities of the Chartres and surrounding regions.
Jean-Baptiste and Francis VOVELLE were active from the middle to the end of the 19th century and for half a century manufactured these so-called "ration" pitchers for religious or hospital communities. All these pitchers had the same gauge of 0.28 liters.
Le gobelet "en botte de postillon" de ces pichets est commun à ceux des maîtres de Montargis, Châteaudun, Orléans ...
Bibliography: "Les potiers d'étain de Chartres" by Michel Schonn
