Representing a Study of Three Characters, circa 1960.
Pierre Ambrogiani 1907-1985, French painter of compositions with characters, figures, nudes, still lifes, landscapes and portraits. Gouache painter, engraver, draftsman and illustrator. Expressionist. Corsican by birth, his family settled in Marseille in 1908. His youth was that of the children of the people of the great southern port of which he was to become a very popular and colorful character. He was very early attracted to drawing and modeling but had to become a small telegraphist at the age of 12. In 1937 he decided to devote himself entirely to painting. He participated in the Salon d'Automne as well as in numerous collective exhibitions throughout the world where he brought back countless prizes. He also illustrated numerous works. His reputation was mainly established on the still lifes of fish from the Mediterranean and the landscapes of Provence that he treated in a thick and greasy paint where he spared neither the effects of abundance of the material, nor the colors. Throughout his life, he continued his career as an artist, translating with a lyricism of a fiery colorist all that illuminates the sun of a Provence that found in him its popular painter. Works in the Museums of Marseille, Montpellier and Sète. Artist listed in Bénézit. Listed on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
