"House Post, Totem, Tribal Art, Oceanic Art, Papua New Guinea, Oceania"
Old double-sided hut post. This post was a supporting element of a ceremonial hut. All the huts in the Sepik River Valley are built on stilts in anticipation of the annual floods. Wood eroded by time and use. The ceremonial huts are regularly rebuilt. The posts, more resistant than the light materials constituting the roof, walls and floors, can be reused. However, in the case where these huts are definitively abandoned, it is possible to acquire them, which I did for this specimen. Each post or beam is carved by one of the village clans who represents their ancestors and totemic animals. Sold with a base. Approx. 215 x 34 x 29 cm / €3,000 base included / shipping costs €200 France - EU €500 - USA €1,000
