They are among the most beautiful Caucasus Originally from the village of Chelaberd and named "Kazak with eagles".
Location close to Karabagh and close to Georgia, in wool on hand-knotted wool, around 1900.
What is surprising about this model are the nuances that this rug displays, colors that these rugs named Kazak, Chelaberd, Tjelaberd or Tchalabert do not or rarely borrow, especially this blue.
The shine of the wool proves its quality.
The shades regularly used are red, blue and white.
Note the changes in the wool bath, which proves and gives an authentic character to our model.
Women weave these rugs at home and in groups; there are no large groups dictating designs or colours suitable for a tourist clientele, as in Turkey or Iran. There are few rugs from this group.
The unusual colour patterns are probably part of the oldest group of this type and it seems that the simpler and more stripped-down patterns are a factor of their age.
These rugs are called "Kazak with eagles", "Kazak adler" (eagle in German), "Kazak with coats of arms", but also "Kazak with sabres".
The designs are typical of this type, and therefore very recognisable in the many Caucasian and Armenian rug designs.
It is therefore impossible to confuse them.
The English call them "Sunburst Kazakh", flaming sun. Some see in it the figurative flight of an eagle, crossed sabers, or ancient coats of arms that remind us of the two-headed eagle of the noble coats of arms of the ancient empires of Russia and Germany, which is why they are called "Kazak Adler".
Seychour carpets also have a very sophisticated typical decoration, resembling a stylized bird and yet their geographical location of creation is much further towards the Caspian Sea.
In the field of this piece, we find three large eagles.
The main stylized border, bordered by a Greek, adopts the decoration of the Caucasian border called "running dog".
This border has a pattern in "S" lying down having a resemblance to the Georgian border called the "running dog" that is found on many Caucasuses but which can also be the meaning of God.
A wonderful carpet in beautiful condition collection, the Chelaberd are in the group of Caucasuses the most exciting carpets.
I invite you to go see our other Caucasus and in particular our other Chelaberd, to whom I have a deep passion.
