Ernest WITTMANN Painter and sculptor, he was born in Sarre-Union (67) in 1846 and died in 1921. These characters are typical of Ernest Wittmann who "searched for the simple, the humble, the poor devils" whom he represented "energetic and resigned" The Mougin brothers (Joseph (1876–1961) and Pierre (1880–1955) ceramists, took charge of publishing his works. He thus created 28 statuettes, taken up in stoneware by the Mougin brothers, or sometimes in bronze.
