This 19th century oil painting on canvas is an old reworking of the painting "The Bathers" painted in the 1765s by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, the original of which is kept at the Louvre Museum. The painting is highlighted in a beautiful and large wooden and gilded stucco frame, also from the 19th century. The painting is signed at the bottom right, we were unable to read the signature, the artist who painted our painting has captured the spirit of the original work, which is described as follows when it was sold in 1776: "naked women enjoying themselves in a place where they bathe. Several trees and clumps of greenery spread an air of freshness. This painting, composed with passion and touched with energy, is of a brilliant color" (sale of the Du Barry collection, Paris, March 11, 1776, no. 77). The original artwork measures 80 x 64 cm, our painting is slightly smaller, it measures 77 x 64 cm. Dimensions with the frame: 103 cm x 90 cm.
