"Gueridon Louis XIV Period"
Rare Louis XIV writing table in ebonized wood and violet wood veneer. This small flying table rests on a scalloped tripod base. The shaft of the pedestal table is veneered in violet wood with a "fern" frieze pattern. The upper top unfolds to form the writing table veneered with a Maltese cross. The drawer reveals compartments for the inkwells and the pen tray. This type of model is inspired by the Grand Dauphin pedestal table in Boulle marquetry, preserved in the collections of the Louvre Museum. Other examples are also preserved in the Getty Museum and in the British Royal Collection. Bibliography: Gillian Widson, Selection from the decorative arts in the J.
