Object description :

"Animal Bronze - Standing Deer - Antoine Louis Barye - Susse Frères "
Bronze with nuanced patina Standing deer reduction 2 signed BARYE for Antoine Louis BARYE Susse Fres foundry stamp stamped Cast between 1850 and 1875 Titled Paul Marcou Memorant June 19, 1891 interesting fact: according to the catalog raisonné of Mr. Richarme and Mr. Poletti it is indicated that this model (reduction 2) was not offered for sale by Susse Frères since 1910. However, the Susse Fres stamp used dates from the catalog raisonné from the period 1850 to 1875. Moreover, according to the titling, it is indeed a 19th century cast and not the early 20th century. This bronze may have been offered to PAUL FRANTZ MARCOU: He made his career at the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts: archivist of the Commission of Historical Works (1891), general inspector of historical monuments, member of the commission of historical monuments and the commission of megalithic monuments, and deputy head of the fine arts exhibitions department. Member of the Committee of Fine Arts Societies of the departments. Knight of the Legion of Honor (1900), officer (1919). Member of the Society of the History of Paris and Île-de-France (1890-1891) and of the Historical Society of the 6th arrondissement
