Frame with molded profile in solid oak under glass 91 X 69 cm Bears the artist's countersignature on the back 'Madeleine Lemaire 1888' She was a student of Madame Jeanne Mathilde Herbelin, then of Jules Chaplin. She made her debut at the Paris Salon in 1864 with a portrait, obtaining an honorable mention in 1877, a silver medal for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. Since 1890, she was also a member of the National Society of Fine Arts. In 1906 she was decorated with the Legion of Honor. She held a Salon where artists, musicians, writers met.
